I suspect that Bates was involved somehow, but didn't actually do it himself. Perhaps he hired someone that he met in prison to do the dirty work? He looked way too happy in that last scene.

Love love love the clothes.

Nah, Bates definitely did it.

Bates is a scary dude.

Ha I thought the same thing - those short white gloves - I couldn't tell they were short at first.

That was the dress she was wearing at the bazaar. It was a beautiful dress, I thought. But would have looked fabulous on Iman circa 1985--or basically anyone with actual skin color.

Again, Cora is so totally clueless. She can't figure out what is going on with her own daughter? Crying, secret phone calls, mysterious trips to London, wanting to go away for a few months. How can she not know that the girl is knocked up?

You can watch on PBS.org!

I agree with you, PP, about the flower scene! I was hooting loudly with laughter! I love the idea that Isobel might find romance, and if it's not with the doctor like many of us have been suspecting, all the better! (I have to say, I have disapproved of the mildly disloyal comments he has made about Isobel to Violet in the two prior episodes!)

Molesley as the romantic hero is NOT something I saw coming, either!

Edith and Tom will never be a match. He's going to run for political office and he's going to hook up with the school teacher.

I actually liked Mary in this episode, for once. And I'm having a tough time choosing between Gillingham and Blake (maybe partly because they look alike). I did like the way Blake admiringly reported Mabel's reaction to his breaking off their engagement; he scored points with me for that.

Where can I get some of those clothes?!

What midly disloyal comments? I thought he defended Isobel -- e.g., when Violet called her a madwoman, he said "that madwoman nursed you for 2 days without sleeping." I'd much rather see Isobel and the doc end up together; Mary's godfather was dull as mud, stuck-up and didn't even remember that Isobel was Matthew's mother. He doesn't deserve her. My goodness, I had no idea I was so het up about this!

And the hats! I surprised myself at how much I was loving the hats at the bazaar thingy.

I do think it would be interesting if Tom brought the schoolteacher into Downton's orbit. She could bring some of the socialist/revolutionary ideas that Tom used to be so passionate about and shake things up in the happy household. Put itching powder in Cora's nightgown, maybe.

The scene with Isobel, the Dowager Countess, and the flowers was priceless.

This ep was on the level of Season 1. Finally!

Do you think Tom will step up and marry Edith at the last minute? And then perhaps she'll miscarriage but they'll be stuck together forever? But then eventually they'll fall in love, just before something awful happens to Tom of course - he's too nice, he's bound to die.

Agreed on all counts. Loved this episode from beginning to end. I'm hoping Bates is innocent. We're going to be led along (with Anna) thinking he pushed that horrible man and find out it was someone else. That's my guess.
