It's the domino effect at Bancroft (as well as at many other schools). But I think that it is changing - more families are staying. Plus I have NO idea where we are going to live 7 years.

The test scores reflect the demographics--mostly low income and ELL. Your middle class kid will do fine.
But I agree that Deal could be a deal breaker (sorry about the pun).
Too bad the boundary decisions (from what I know) will come out too late to factor into families' school choices this fall.

If Bancroft keeps the Deal feed, I would keep my kid there. If not, probably not.

MV is only going up to 5th grade after which it send its students to DCI:

The permanent location will be at the old Walter Reed Medical Center. We are at a feeder and will not be sending DC to DCI due to that location.

Right - I went to the MV site and it said nothing about DCI. That is why I assumed it stopped at 5th grade (for now) with plans to go to 8th.

Right..... and actually MV goes up to only 5th grade as an independant school. But all the way to 12th when combined with DCI. I agree that googling might be your best answer here.

We are staying at Bancroft too. Considered applying since there may be more spots with the new space but we can't imagine doing the commute. It just does not fit our daily schedules and we are happy at Bancroft (plus Bancroft should be renovated in 2-3 years). It seems as if people grow roots.

4 or 5, really. It's in Truxton Circle, south of Florida Ave. It's a pretty short walk there though, and also to the NoMa metro stop.

Our kids go to Bancroft and we are very happy with the school, and we love the convenient commute. Not what the OP was asking, but I just thought I'd mention it. We avoided MV precisely because a long commute just doesn't work for our family - we tried it and it was horrible for all involved.

no plans to switch. It will certainly be a change for us, but we will make it work. The prospect of not having to worry about finding a middle & high school is draw enough for us to continue with MV despite the longer commute.
