To the Water, I add grated Ginger (Cheese grater works fine - approximately 1" ginger), 1 Crushed Green Cardamom (or even Skin is fine), Clove (Crushing optional), Cinnamon (small piece) and Tea Powder (or 2 Tea bag) and let it boil on the stove. Later, add Milk and Sugar per taste. This is how I make Chai at home. Otherwise, you can get Tea Masala in Indian Grocery stores, a pinch of it gives enough spice to the Tea.

I do make my own, but I can't recreate the same heat (spice) that is in the Teaism version. Any suggestions on how to get that? Is is the kind of cinnamon they use?

Chai is made with water and milk boiled together. A chai latte uses steamed milk, frothed up. My mother-in-law makes chai but there's no way you'd call it a chai latte.
