I had assumed that you had already thought of that, but in case you didn't know, the pottete portable potty has both the bag configuration you are describing and also can be used as a portable potty ring to sit on top of the toilet.

I wouldn't be "outraged" if you did it, but I would think you were really odd. If your child screams about the bathroom and is upset for a bit, he and the other passengers will deal with it and survive, or he can wear a pull up and either pee in it or hold it.

I am glad I posted the question because before that I could imagine some stink eyes, but not the outrage predicted by this thread. I wouldn't care if someone changed a diaper next to me, for example, but obviously I am not your typical passenger.

If you even considered this you and your child are not fit to be in a confined space with other humans. People wonder why there is a backlash against parents and young children? Can you play up the whole airplane bathroom thing?

DS at that age loved airplanes and vehicles of all sorts, but had an aversion for strange bathrooms (yelling, struggling, etc). So... before a 7 hour trip to Europe and a 12h trip to Tokyo from there, I invested in the big Playmobil airplane, complete with bathroom.
We talked of the loud sucking noise the toilet makes, how small it is, how we can lose our footing if the plane shakes, and best of all... where does the pee go???

Let me tell you, DS could not wait to use that bathroom

(By the way, he's going on 9 and the Playmobil airplane is still alive and well.)

I think you should put him in a pullup and try to get him to use the airplane bathroom. You will just have to deal with a little screaming. It will be unpleasant and slightly embarrassing for you, but nobody will die. (Pullup in case he withholds and then has an accident).

No way this will fly, and im shocked you would consider it for a child so kld. He may be your baby but hes no baby. I once had a stewardess furious at me for changing the wet diaper of a not yet 2 year old at my seat, im pretty sure they wont be happy with open toileting.

Absolutely not. I just finished traveling with my 3yo and was so worried she'd have an accident. Even as the mother of a kid the same age, you can bet I'd be awfully loud and complaining if you did that within my sight/hearing/smelling distance.

Buy a pack of pull ups and have him wear one. If he won't pee in it and won't pee in the toilet, problem solved, right?

My DD's been potty trained since before her 3rd birthday, although she still wears pull ups at night. If we're going to be on a long plane ride or even on a long car trip, she'll often voluntarily wear a pull up just in case. No biggie.

Oh my goodness, no, you can't have him using a potty outside the restroom on a flight.

Frankly, plenty of kids scream bloody murder on airplanes, and while other passengers hate it, it's much more preferable than sitting next to a kid using a potty. If it looks like he'll need to go, you'll just have to pick him up and take him. Or force the use of pull-ups if you're not willing to do that.

We have that one! She's a pup who spills her juice during the flight and the nice flight attendant bathes her in the sink.

I say bring lollipops. Good for ear pressure and good to offer after he goes to the bathroom.

Don't just bring a change of clothes, get some puppy pads and make him sit on one if you won't buy a pack of pull ups.

Don't make a whole plane smell your kid's accident for a 6 hour flight and then delay the next flight while they clean / change out the pee filled seat.

If you can't plan properly for this trip, he should not go.

OP, this book seems to have the protagonist receiving a bath in an airplane bathroom…? I didn't spend much time reading it, but maybe it would help with your DC.
