I'm getting tired of Bates' syrupy replies to Anna. "I see your face and I'm happy," etc. I'm a bit of a romantic but this is a bit too much for even me.
I also liked the scene with the three widow/ers. It was sad. Then Mrs. Crawley said, "Aren't we the lucky ones," and it was really bittersweet. I don't think she was being sarcastic, given the discussion immediately preceding her comment. I think she was saying, "We are so lucky because we've experienced true love."
I agree. I loved that scene! I liked it except for Mary's monotone drab recounting of her experience; she is the Edwardian Debbie Downer. "Debbie Downton"?!
