Exactly! I live in this neighborhood and it's totally doable.

OP, I rent in NW DC (Connecticut Ave corridor) and my child is at Murch. I pay under $2000 for a two bedroom. I rented it last May so it's not like it's rent controlled. I think it's more than possible to rent in my neighborhood for $2500 and send your child to either Murch, Jenney or LaFayette. I negotiated my rent so I know it's a little below market, but for $2500 you can absolutely rent a two bedroom. Good luck.

If you want Oyster, you can also look to see if there is a condo in the Valley Vista Building on Belmont Road. We lived there pre-kids. They are mostly 1 bedrooms, but the space is flexible (our 1-bedroom was 860 square feet and had 5 rooms plus an enormous storage closet, another owner had converted the same floorplan as ours into a two bedroom) and I could easily live there with one child. You could buy for what you are selling your house for, or possibly rent in your price range. Very safe.

There are probably 3BRs in the co op buildings on Tilden Street. Not sure about rental though.

We had a 2 bedroom zoned for Brent in 2011 for around $2500. I think it goes for around $3000 now. You ought to be able to find something roughly in that range in zone for Maury or Brent.

In that price range, you need to move away from the Metro. Try the Stoddert, Mann, and Key neighborhoods

I just looked at craigslist and there are 2-br's in-boundary for Key offered for 2500 and under.

Craigslist makes it pretty easy to gauge the rental market. I would make a list of schools and go from there. It's not common for rentals to include school district, so go to the DCPS website and look at the boundary maps there.

Nope.

If you up your budget to ~2800-3000 I think you will have a lot more options for 2BR.

When my sister was looking 2 years ago for a three bedroom in a ward 3 school she could not find one.

She eventually found a really awful one for $2200 in a basement near Key. You will really have to look, and think beyond best to solid.
