My DC went to an all day school and they showed about 3-4 movies a year. I was fine with that and pleased they were open throughout much of the year. We rarely watch TV at home, so I was kind of glad my DC got to see some of them. I'd just recommend G rated movies to your director. Honestly though some of the G rated movies are probably as violent as the two movies you listed though.

Preschool does not equal movie time. My dds school does not show movies OP.

That being said I have no qualms with frosty.

NP, and former pre-school teacher. I think in my 7 years teaching I showed one movie, and it was the Polar Express at Christmas time with planned activities (set up train in classroom, corresponding art project, made hot cocoa and wore pajamas to school...) and we asked the parent permission in advance.

I think you have every right to be concerned, I do not know if addressing it with the school will help though as it seems that their standards are not up to where they should be!! Sorry OP, GL

Obviously this happens at some places but it would be pretty difficult to pull that behavior off when you're located in the parents' work building and you have parents stopping by unannounced to visit on breaks, pick up early, nurse, etc - you only have a 15-20 minutes window between one visiting parent and the next. Not to mention that kids have needs and make a ruckus if you try to ignore them for too long and if you are systematically not tending to the kids it will manifest as diaper rash, changes in weight gain, etc.

I'm another who thinks watching movies (barring an unavoidable situation) is absurd. Preschool is only 3-4 hours long!

The preschool I sent my son to had weekly movies. We moved him this year to another preschool, and that was the No. 1 reason. I'm not paying top dollar for that.

I would be pretty bothered if my kid's preschool was showing a movie at all. I send my kid there for either social play or structured learning activities. I can easily put in a movie at home if I want him to veg out.

My DCs' school would never do this. In the bad weather, they do an indoor play time in a rec room or active activities like parachute play.

If you're talking about daycare or the after care showing a movie at 5:00, maybe that's ok. I still wouldn't be ok with PG or not knowing ahead of time.

There is no reason for a movie to be shown at a legitimate preschool. Kids should be playing, exploring, learning, doing group activities, not watching movies.

Yes it is unreasonable most likely your child will be put on a chair out in the hall as if she was in trouble.

Barring some kind of major emergency (e.g. something that required everyone to shelter in place for a lengthy period of time or something that reuqired the teachers' attention to coordinate evacuation of the school), I would have a huge problem with any preschool that shows movies at all. What am I paying them for then? I could show movies at home.

1. movie in place of recess is not an acceptable substitute (i.e. using it on snow days) - they need to have an indoor play room.

2. Of COURSE they should be telling you in advance. There is no need to know the movie titles to know that this is the case. This is not at all unreasonable.

They shouldn't be showing PG movies- that is absurd!! People are in too much of a rush to have their kids grow up!
They also have to realize that some kids are sensitive.

OP- I had a sensitive PSchooler, and now a sensitive 1st grader. I have talked to her understanding teachers and she knows if she is uncomfortable with a show/movie, to ask the teacher if she can color or read.

Everyone is different. but pg movies in ps and lower elem is not right.
