Kingstowne has two metro stations Van Dorn Street on the North End and Franconia/Springfield on the South End. It is definitely filled with lots of young families, and the communities contain pools/tot lots...etc. There's a large town center with plenty of stores/restaurants/movie theater. I had a coworker who lived in Fairlington, and we both had 45 minutes door-to-door commutes to downtown DC. However, if schools aren't a matter of concern - I would be more tempted to lean towards Shirlington/Fairlington. Shirlington is a great area.

Had to be different times of day. Shirlington is SIX MILES up 395 from the mixing bowl and you have to drive yourself much further to get to 395 from K ingest owner vs Shirlington.

New poster here. I see that some of Fairlington is zoned for Claremont and I am interested in Spanish Immersion. I see from the posters, that there are many people who rent in Fairlington. Have you had a hard time reselling the units? Also, what's the difference between the different communities, meadows and the villages, etc?

Sounds great to me, and certainly better than backass-of-nowhere Kingstowne, but then again I'm a raging alcoholic.

We were in a set-back courtyard with a bunch of kids living there. In the late afternoons, the kids would all end up playing together out there, and the grown-ups would get together and chat. It was like a built-in playgroup. I miss it very much too. We live out of state now, in a neighborhood without any kids around. Sigh.

You may also want to tap into the Fairlington mom's club. People often post about available units, or for friends looking to get into Fairlington. If you have any neighbors in the club, you could ask them to post a link to your CL ad.

Omg we miss Fairlington so much. The people, the dogs, sitting on the front steps or on the sweet back patio with a glass of wine and without fail a neighbor would stop by and bring cheese or more wine and we'd be out there til the wee hours. We're in the burbs now and as much as I love our SFH and neighborhood, nothing will ever match that experience. If we hadn't wanted to buy a place (and could only afford something farther out) I think we would have stayed forever. Hope you find a place and love it as much as we did!!
