I think the likelihood of school closing hinges mainly on the county's ability to plow the parking lots of all the schools, since this was a significant snowfall and isn't melting any time soon. The fact that they announced only a two-hour delay to me says that they were able to get everything plowed.

MCPS announced 2 hour delay for Thursday

Many roads are very bad still. The salt just did not do the trick this time. I'd wager many jurisdictions will have at least a two-hour delay tomorrow.

Admin offices were open today, so I'm assuming lots are plowed (ours in Rockville was). We did not get THAT much snow!

What is unsafe about walking in a few inches of snow, or packed snow for that matter? Please don't say "everything is a sheet of ice," because I've been in multiple locations throughout the county, and this just is not the case. My office has a bunch of people from Germantown and further up (Mt. Airy, etc.), and no one had any problems getting here on time this morning.

People, the ice is not going anywhere soon. We are supposed to get slightly above freezing Saturday afternoon, but then back to the 20s well into next week. You can't just keep canceling school until all the ice is gone. That's just absurd. Kids can walk on ice, you just need to be careful. The majority of the roads are perfectly fine, as evidenced by everyone out and about today. 2-hour delay, okay. Not a closure.

we cleared our whole sidewalk up to the corner with the idea that it would be safer for kids to walk to school but honestly it seems icier and more dangerous than if we had left the powdery snow!

Our streets are an icy mess! At least 2 hour delay.

I just hope they call it early like they did yesterday and last week when they announced MCPS would be open, unlike other schools.

After today, aren't they out of snow days and have to tack on more school at the end of the year?

Has everybody shoveled so the kids can walk to the bus?

I definitely predict the two hour delay. Tomorrow will be icy and cold and probably the first day back at work for the masses, so the roads will be crowded. There is no real reason for a two hour delay, but I am pretty sure they will call for one.

Seriously?? Hadn't even crossed my mind that school wouldn't be on time tomorrow. Parents who've been around MCPS for awhile, which do you think is more likely: closure or delay?
