We get the lifeway brand, usually one of the plain and a sweetened one. Our toddler drinks a cup in the morning of half plain/half fruit... it's plenty sweet enough and he loves it.

I get the unsweetened one from Trader Joes. It is really good by itself, and when I am in mood for dessert I add a tsp of sugar and that appeases my sweet tooth and is also full of protien/probiotics.

my son loves the stuff but he can't have it anymore- it makes him horribly constipated.

I heard on NPR the other day some recipes for making your own. Apparently you can order the cultures online, then you leave a jar of milk out on the counter with some of the cultures in it (sealed). I think you have to taste it every day or so to see if the tangy quality is to your liking. It can apparently go from mild to caustic in a matter of days.

in Slavic regions, kefir make you!

we are eastern european and we had it growing up at breakfast. We always bought it at the russian store and that's where I buy it now. It is a thin, almost sour yogurt. We never had it flavored. I think Lifeway is pretty good.

I'm british and there was a constant supply of fresh Kefir in the kitchen.

Kefir has kind of a sour-yogurt taste. They're like drinkable yogurt.

I like the ones at Trader Joe's - they have high levels of protein, and the bacteria in them is supposed to be good for your digestive and immune system.

Do you have a favorite recipe you could share? I'd love to start making my own kefir!
