Pp, there is no reason for you to go to the burbs. Glover park or palisades.

Rent a two bedroom on MacArthur blvd in the palisades. Bus to Georgetown (or walk or bike) and your kid gets to go to Key, which is great. Great family neighborhood with relatively cheap rents.

This is not true. Although not all DC schools have PS (for 3 yos), all do have PK (4 yos). And even some schools west of the park (e.g., Francis-Stevens) have PS. In fact, OP, you might want to check out the neighborhood that feeds Francis-Stevens (West End, which is between Dupont and Georgetown)--lots of apartments, easy access to Gtown and Virginia. The older grades at FS are still a work in progress, I think, but I know folks who've done PS/PK there and been very happy.

This is a nice thread because OP will definitely get more than 550 square feet! She will get walkable! Hopefully her hubs will find a job (there are so MANY schools!). She will get a bigger kitchen! I think DC will be such a nice step for her.

The 20016 and 20007 zip codes are just north of G'town, are very nice, walkable to stuff, near Rock Creek Park. It'd be easy for your husband to go north to MD schools, or straight across the river to Arlington, Fairfax, or Alexandria schools. (Alexandria would be a bit to the south; Fairfax is a huge district, so his destination would depend on the specific school.) Don't know about what DC pre-K's are in those neighborhoods, though. For an easy condo, look at MacLean Gardens condos in NW DC on Wisconsin Avenue. They have a pool and playground on the grounds. It'd be an easy place to land for a year or so.
