Sorry, the soup isn't very good. People are nice. But the soup just isn't tasty. I've tried and tried again. I'm just consistently disappointed.

lol I was thinking the same thing. They also start out with "NP"

It isn't homemade if you are buying it somewhere.

Seriously. Soup is about the easiest thing you can make.

(Had it for dinner tonight.) Also, Trader Joe's has good onion soup in the freezer section. There is always pho!

Yes! Pho!

Vietnamese restaurants have some of the most delicious, health, warm, satisfying and gigantic bowls of soup. Definitely get some Pho!

re: Soupergirl. I tried them from Whole Foods, and agree that it was missing salt and flavor. I don't like salty foods in general, but salt is really really necessary for many foods, WHILE you are cooking. It's not just about saltiness, but it brings out the flavors of other ingredients and brings them together. That's elementary cooking! A lot of people have the dumb idea that salt = unhealthy, but that's just not true. You NEED some salt. I may try them again, but not that enthused.

Yes OP. Get thee some Pho!!

Pho is delicious, but cannot be stored in the freezer in most cases. I'm not in DC but if I had to get soup, there is a fabulous noodle soup (but spicy and Sichuan) at Hong Kong palace in Virginia. I think otherwise, maybe a place like Le Pain Quotidien or a more upscale market?

Based on all of the recommendations and the fact that the last time we tried to go to Soupergirl, it was already closed (3 PM on a Fri), I decided to try again today. Closed on Saturday! Ahhh!

NP here, I'm also a fan of Soupergirl. Haven't been to the actual store front, just get the soups at Whole Foods. I like that all the ingredients are natural. I personally like less salted soups and grew up with a Mom who only cooked bland. You can definitely taste flavor in the soups but they are usually not bold. Now this is not an issue for me but..... she uses the same vegetable stock as a base in all of her soups (in addition to varying ingredients) so I do find that many of her soups taste very similar. Again, not an issue for me but definitely could be for others.

Right by Soupergirl, on the other side of the train tracks, there's a little place called "My Little Bistro" which sells this Peruvian soup called aquadito de pollo that is absolutely amazing. It's flavored with cilantro so it's green, with lots of rice and bits of chicken.

I have a meeting in Takoma DC for work every week, sometimes twice, and I buy a bowl and a grilled cheese sandwich every time. Heavenly! I wonder if they sell larger containers, but I've never asked.
