This sounds interesting, but I hurt my shoulder a while back. What muscle groups does this use? Can you start as a beginner?

My flabby body needs exercise. I used to play tennis, ride horses, ski, all of which seem too dangerous to me now. I walk about 10 minutes a day, that's it, but I feel terrible. Rowing sounds like paradise if an old, flabby lady can do it without extreme suffering while I get into shape -- is it possible? And where do you do it? what does it cost? Where do you find a team?

TIA!

Crazy hard and maybe not for someone who "hates to exercise"

Not necessarily. I took up Crossfit, and I go to a non-aggressive gym. I like that it's directed, and someone is telling me what to do. I like that the workouts are always different so I don't get bored. I like that the WOD (work out of the day) is normally over in 15-20 minutes, so it doesn't feel like forever. Going to Crossfit made me like to exercise. Oh, and everything is scalable. You lift the weights that are right for you, etc.

Jazzercise - Great routines to popular music that gets changed often. A great bunch of "gals" of all ages, shapes, and sizes to work out with. And no hassles of having to go to an actual gym. The instructors are great about giving options on tailoring the impact and intensity of the movements. There is a strength training segment at the end so you can get a total body workout in an hour. Us older gals need to keep our bodies and minds engaged. Much cheaper than most gym memberships.

Get a personal trainer. He or she can start you off with the right exercises for your physical condition, so you don't get hurt or burn out, and will also keep you accountable.

I walk every night for 3 miles with my neighbor. I also swim very regularly.

Watch reality TV while you're doing it and you won't notice the time passing.

Hand and ankle weights each night while watching tv. I do cardio (swimming) every saturday.

Once you get a routine going it is harder to skip. Like not brushing your teeth, it feels off if you skip.

biking. Ive done it part way to work a few times (about 5 miles each way) and longer rides on weekends. There is nothing like it, IMO.

Walking is aerobic.

Try badminton.I don't like to exercise but chasing after the birdie makes me forget I'm running. It's easier than tennis and you don't need a tennis court. You need a partner of course.
If the birdie is too light, put some play-dough in it.Birdies break, so buy several.

I also hate to exercise. What works for me is music, because it distracts me from the task and gets me in a different frame of mind. I like to walk listening to music on headphones and I enjoy Zumba or similar dance/aerobic classes. I'm not super good at the classes, but I have a sense of humor about myself. I leave them with a good workout and a smile on my face. The hardest part for me is getting myself there.

I hate exercise too but I like playing with kids toys. So I take Kangoo Jump classes (where you wear those really bouncy shoes), I have a Street Strider and I hoola hoop.
