The accusations against the Duke lacrosse players were a total fabrication. She, the accuser, selected the targets randomly from pictures she was shown by the now disgraced prosecutor.

These young men were falsely accused and were shown to be completely innocent.

The crime of these Landon boys and the others --- in the mind of the critics --- is they attended a rowdy college party.

I'm not a big Landon fan, but attempting to to tar Landon with this brush says more about the person doing it than it does Landon.

They are good teammates on the field (mostly). Off the field? No, thank you.

Ah, so you're teaching your son that it's ok to be on a team with (according to you) "punks" with whom you wouldn't want to associate off the field, just because they're good players of whatever sport we're talking about?

The school has always recruited for sports - that is nothing new.

I didn't write the post about the declining enrollment but I have heard it is accurate at least for the middle school. The school's overall finances are fine. All schools pay attention to enrollment and make changes to their marketing/admissions outreach if they think they need to -- that is the norm. There's an ebb and a flow to these things, and Landon has to deal with the fairly strong alternative of Montgomery County.

Great point about the Montgomery County alternative. To me this is the single most remarkable thing about Landon – they sit right in the middle of the strongest public school district in the country and still manage to attract students. It’s not like schools in the District where parents frantically look for any way possible to escape a nightmarish public school system. Moreover, it seems to me that for nearly EVERY boy at Landon, was the FIRST choice. That’s not to say that everyone likes Landon – this thread and many others are enough to tell you that there are plenty of Landon haters out there. But it is remarkable to me that in face of extremely attractive no-cost options, attractive same cost options and viable lower cost options – families are choosing Landon year after year.

No, he is at a Top 3 school. Would never even consider applying to Landon, let alone send my child there. SAT scandal, fantasy sex leagues, stripper parties, teenage drinking at beach, etc. No, thank you.

There's no doubt that Landon has had some bad incidents, but you are unfairly tarnishing an entire student body and faculty based on what seems to be an opinion based on bad publicity and anecdotal evidence.

If you've got some evidence to support what you're claiming, let's hear it. Otherwise, I'd say that Landon, like other similar schools, has some great, truly exceptional kids, it has a "middle" of boys who are smart and generally come from good families and are likely to do well in life, and it has a few assholes.
