She has a job and makes enough for her clothes, starbucks, and other entertainment so I don't think this could work.

Yep. There is a right and wrong answer to this. To me, it is similar to wearing a seatbelt. If she doesn't want to play by my rules, then she loses the extras I provide. I don't mess around with matters of health and safety.

She's not wrong, OP. She's just come to a different opinion than you. You need to start loosening the apron strings, so she's not in shock when she has to start making all her own decisions. You've made your argument and she made hers. I'm on the fence every year about the flu shot. It's extremely unlikely she'll die from the flu. Though as a PP pointed out, she could give it to someone with a weaker immune system. But at her age, that's also less likely. I think the people who spread it most are those who go to work when they shouldn't, or those small children whose parents send them to school even when they're sick because they (the parents) don't want to miss work. If she does get sick, just make sure she stays home, even if she's going to miss something important at school.

Ummm no you can't. Flu shot is not a requirement. You may have consequences in your household for not getting one but legally, and in school, she is not required.

My husband and I have never had the flu, nor have we ever had the flu shot. It'll be fine.
