Oh come on. If the pizza delivery guy parked his car in your front yard for a few weeks, yes. This is completely different. We struck out the clause in our contract about putting a sign in the front yard. All work is being done in the rear, it was not necessary. they were upset about this and said that it impacted their bottom line but we didn't budge and they didn't offer us a discount as a condition for putting it there.
That's not how it works. No contractor can justify the cost of even a 2% discount by you allowing them to put up a sign that is unlikely to get them more business. The sign thing is when you are done negotiating, planning to do the work and you are still haggling over price. If the guy held out a little in order to offer you this final discount, he doesn't want to just give it to you for nothing in exchange. That shows he was holding out. So he says, OK I tell you what, if you let us post our sign... But believe me, they don't care. I'm not giving up even $500 profit just to post a sign. If you refused the sign, then I'd ask for something else that is easy for you to agree to, like writing an online review. Anything to give your cheap a$$ a final discount and get you to sign.
