I agree that I don't understand the attraction of pale gray. One or two shades off white just looks dingy. A bolder gray can be nice, but not something I'd do with an eye toward resale.
Completely agree. This is how the north-facing living/dining room of our bungalow was painted, and it just looked dirty and depressing. We recently painted the room with Benjamin Moore Soleil. It is a very soft yellow. Definitely a yellow, but pale. It has completely transformed the room into a warm and much brighter space.
