There are activities for kids. The ES is one of the best in the county. At Halloween a resident dresses up as a good witch/fairy and hand spins cotton candy in a big cotton candy maker for all trick or treaters. There's the great park, with tennis, playgrounds, basketball, library, theater, MPA in walking distance. Neighbors let kids cut through their yards and play on their driveways (sledding, biking, skate boarding, etc.) It's close enough to walk into McLean. We've been there for almost 15 years and love it. There's one cranky person we know of who complained because a couple Halloweens ago, someone was giving out cider to kids and had beer for pedestrian adults if they wanted it. The neighborhood pretty much closes down the streets to all but slow traffic on Halloween (there isn't much anyway but that night there are probably 200 kids and grownups walking around, most houses decorated, etc). It's a great place for kids. They can play outside. This would not happen on Lewinsville Road.
Of course everyone goes there for Halloween, that's not the problem. You sound like you are aware.
