So, I found an article that says

"The transition to specialty schools will be phased in, Maxwell said.

Students currently attending those schools as neighborhood schools will continue to do so. However, the school boundaries will be redrawn, so that upcoming kindergartners zoned for those schools will instead attend other neighborhood schools in this fall, and the kindergarten seats instead will be filled by Spanish immersion students."

So, I wonder if the current principal will also oversee the Specialty program at Phyllis E Williams since it appears they are going to let current students attend until they move on to middle school... I imagine they will have to bring in new teachers for Kindergarten and following years since they would need to be fluent in Spanish.

I think they put the new specialty schools at schools that have space -- one reason a school has space is that it isn't otherwise a great school, so people in that neighborhood choose private.

Exact same concern about the purely rated school as you Anonymous. I'm in the same situation. I'm trying to investigate and see how they are implementing the Spanish program because if they are doing an immediate and complete transition then it's basically a completely different school than before, likely with new staff and principal. I want my daughter to learn Spanish but the French school is so raved about. I'm not sure what to choose if she gets in there as well.
