That's what it's all about, right - impressing the neighbors?

Yes. I'm also impressed by a desire for national service. Frankly, I would be more impressed by admission to a service academy than, for example, an opportunity to go to Yale and whine about cultural misappropriation of Halloween costumes.

According to the website, average composite ACT is 27 and here's a quote about SAT scores:
"In recent years, the average SAT I math score has been about 650 and critical reading score has been about 620. Cadets in the 25th to 75th percentile of their class usually score between 1230 and 1350."

Those are not exactly elite stats.

They're pretty damn good though - certainly better than most state schools.

Not really. Aren’t the stats to get into a school like the naval academy way higher?

Trust me, it's all consensual. Anyone who served inn the military would know this.

I met the wife of a graduate. She seemed to think the culture was less militaristic and less tough on women than the other military academies.

It is very pretty campus right on the water in New London. Kids from Connecticut College (right across the street) sometimes take classes there and vice versa.

Hey my DH is retired form the CG and did attend the USCG Academy years ago… he loved it.. there were ups and downs and the downs came when he worked with some awful people but that happens anywhere..

If you are at all interested (your child) they have a camp that you can sign up to get a flavor of things at the academy to see if you would like to apply. Check into it…it fills up fast.

If this question is serious, then the USCGA might not be for your or your DC. The USCGA is every single bit, perhaps more, military than the other service academies. Within two years of graduating, essentially every newly-commissioned USCGA alum will hold some sort of command, not a glorified squad leadership. The USCGA is exceptionally demanding. If your question is. social life, think very hard about this. As a USCGA mid, you are not only a student, you are a junior enlisted member of the service. You will work 24x7.

Go back to Russia, Ivan. Next time your boat capsizes in shark infested waters, I hope that you can swim.
