Thanks everyone! I ended up buying a small bottle of Dr. Bronners "baby mild" magic soap. I've used it in the past (lavender and peppermint scents too) for general cleaning and as a shower gel.

I think she was lying to you so you would buy their detergent. Use anything. If you are really scared, use woolite.
