Also, I pay a lot for food and it will be expensive to travel. I buy many things second hand, like clothes, toys etc.
I agree with all of you about what you said, I just was amazed when I read how much some people earn...had no idea. I only have one friend whose husband is a partner at a law firm who earns such big bucks.

How much are you paying for your apartment? a living nanny? Im curious. Im the other single mom making $70k and I can't afford a nanny

Holy crap! How do you afford NW DC rent, a live-in nanny, and everything else on that salary? I admire you!

mo money mo problems. be happy with what you have. most of the good stuff is free. key thing is to have time off. I'd rather have an extra week or two off a year than another $50K.

My parents raised us on a lot less, so I feel like my 70k salary is plenty for DD and I. I have a small mortgage in an area I love and very little SL debt. I travel internationally thanks to work. I feel like I am living the American dream. Making 300k would change what? Allow me to purchase that Chanel bag I've always wanted? The problems have in life have very little, if anything, to do with money.

Family of 4 with 92K HHI, in Bethesda.

The BEST part is when your otherwise compassionate and intelligent friend starts complaining that her budget will be very tight now that her DH only earns 340K with NO bonus this year - oh dear Lord, the pain!

A lot of DCUM nitwits have difficulty managing their 250K+ a year. You know, what with private school for both kids, a huge mortgage and maybe student or luxury car loans, they're the new Poors! Who knew all these necessities they deserved would add up so quickly!!! And they work so hard for it too, compared to the hourly wage workers with 2 jobs.

I live in Upper NW and make about $30k a year.Love my neighborhood and the schools.
Don't know the rich folks personally nor do I compare myself to them.
I'm missing nothing though. Or at least I've gotten to the point where it feel like I'm missing nothing.

It really helps if you don't live among people richer than you. If I lived in upper NW, for example, this would stress me out but living in SE makes it a whole lot easier to be grateful for what I have!

I make 89 grand with a PhD and 10 years of experience. I used to get depressed about my salary compared to the peers I grew up with...many of whom live in million dollar+ houses..and go on fabulous vacations. I finally made peace with it.....I have everything I need and more than most. I like my job, which is in the helping profession, have great benefits and a pension. I also aggressively invest and in 20-30 years will probably have a sizeable nest egg.

Single mom who makes around $55K. It's all relative really. I used to work as an assistant in a school for years waiting to find a teaching job. I made maybe half of what I make now and no benefits. So I am thrilled to be making $55K plus great benefits I am almost done paying off my debt from those years of underemployment. I have my Master's degree too.

I make under 70k.
I don't for a second believe everyone in the area is a high earner, only the loud mouths on DCUM. You know there are tons of low level jobs being worked, and more homeless beggars here than I've seen compared to many other areas.
