I second this. I also agree with area around Dunn Loring metro. It's up and coming. I lived there during the construction. We owned a 2 br condo that was townhouse style across the street from metro, and the rent in surrounding units was $2100. Good luck to you and your child.

Second for Falls Church City, outside of Arlington (if you think it's too far) it's your only spot of somewhat-urban environment. Good schools and a family-oriented vibe. Lots of parks. Pretty houses. And if you plan to drive anyway, then distance from metro shouldn't be an issue. Tysons will be just a short drive up on 66.

Around the west falls church stop of the orange line. I can walk to metro, giant, the dry cleaners, cvs and down on broad street to some of the restaurants. There is a nice trail near by for biking, walking. You need a car for everything else. The nice thing is that we rent from a family so we don't live in a large building with no sense of community. No kids.

OP Here- Thank you for the suggestions, so besides Tysons and Dunn Loring, where should I look? or should i just limit myself to those 2 areass?

In Tyson's, You can find a two bed room apartment for a little more than 2k. But it it totally worth it. Check for Avalon Tyson's, Fountains ( condos but owners rent), Post Tyson's etc. There are many apartments/condos for rent near Jones Branch Dr and West park drive. The kids in those apt's goes to Spring Hill elementary school which is good and around 5 min ride from these places. From these places, Harristeeter is a walkable grocery shop and open 24 hrs. Tysons 2 mall is just a block or two. Otherwise, apartments in Dunnloring are also good. The kids goto stenwood or Shrevewood schools based on the boundaries.

No one who really wants a short commute because they are a single mom working in Tysons is going to rent in Arlington. Dunn Loring is a good suggestion.
