My tooth broke and I needed a new crown. I also broke my wrist and had to put all those expenses on a credit card.
Also, my car needed new brake pads and later new tires.

Summer camp is a need and that I always put on a credit card and accumulate about $3000 debt each year. I hope to pay it off before my kid starts college

Not old enough to be home alone for 10 weeks
Maryland law says 13 is the legal age

But summer camp is not an "unexpected expense". Try and put some money away every month starting now to help pay for it.

You do know that some people don't have anything to put away at the end of the month, right?

I have $108 until next Friday and I am pretty happy about it. Maybe the OP NEEDED to use a credit card for a new appliance when the old one decided to kick the bucket. I had to use my credit card for years to pay for my health insurance b/c my job didn't offer it.

When I want to pay something off...I just started this BTW...I pay off the amount I want to get it down each month plus the interest. So if I want to see the balance decrease by $500 per month I pay $500, plus the $30 ot $40 worth of interest making my payment $540. That way I know what month I will be done paying the loan off. Each month the interest goes down just a little.

Ah yes, another entitled DCUMer who thinks that they are middle class on their $300K income. You are pretty out-of-touch with reality. The median HHI in the DMV region is around $85-92K which is significantly higher than the national median HHI which is closer to $60K. With the cost of rentals and mortgages in the area, there are MANY who are living very close to paycheck to paycheck. For them, having $300 in savings is closer to normal than $3K.
