OP - DCUM is not the right forum for you. Listen to your gut and act accordingly. But please, don't pay attention to many of the posters here. Your sons behavior / response speaks volumes. This is about him, not your "melodrama".

Yep. You're missing pretty much everything. Hard to see clearly with your head so far up your asshole.

Would it have been the end of the world if dad helped tie the tie at 730AM?

My kids get up earlier than they have to sometimes too and they know they are on their own until I get up at the normal time (7:00).

Sounds like this was a special once in a while kind of thing like Christmas. Get up, help your kid, and go back to bed. Would he rather the reason he's woken up early be that his kid had to go to the ER?

My husband did not take a 100% active roll in the kid's lives until they became Jr. high age. I did it all before that time because my husband was busy making money and being forced to volunteer for his damn company.

My DH didn't even come to our DC's winter performance, even though he had the day off work.

Not tying a necktie at 6:30 AM? I think you need to quit being so over dramatic.

+1. This is what I was expecting. Or maybe a still-married mom whose dad leaves at 6am, comes in at 10pm, and has ignored repeated requests for date night/time with the kids.

Bert.

Bert: You know, begging your pardon, but the one my heart goes out to is your father. There he is in that cold, heartless bank day after day, hemmed in by mounds of cold, heartless money. I don't like to see any living thing caged up.
Jane: Father? In a cage?
Bert: They makes cages in all sizes and shapes, you know. Bank-shaped, some of 'em, carpets and all.

What is the definition of a great dad?
I bet there are many aspects and elements that factor into everyone's individual account, from their own experiences with their own fathers to their observations and perceptions of other fathers both real and portrayed in the media.

6:30 IS too goddamned early.

Agreed. OP, have you talked about your feelings with a therapist? Also, were you an only-child?
