Daycare is different. When our kids were in preschool, we contributed a week's tuition for each child toward the class gift, knowing that the teachers didn't earn very much. Their teachers are now significantly better paid and have good benefits, and the holiday gift is more of a token of appreciation than a supplement to their income.

I am giving each of my son's daycare teachers $50 and giving it to them Wednesday so they can use them to buy Xmas presents. The make less than $30k a year, so I know they can use it. If you can do it, why not! These wonderful folks care for your kids, often loving them like their own.

I am very sympathetic to teacher financial problems, but I can't solve them. My gift is just a small gesture to say that my kid, DH, and I are thinking of you.

If you can't use my gift or giftcard - pass it on, give it away, or throw it away, but just know we appreciate you!

I think Starbucks cards are fun. I really don't go there much anymore, but if I have a gift card will wander over with the family on the weekend and treat everyone to overpriced hot beverages and a standardized breakfast sandwich.

I am a private preschool teacher and I find OP's post embarrassing. While I certainly appreciate the thoughtfulness of parents when they give a present at Christmas I certainly do not expect it. It is a gift, what makes OP think that it is okay to say what we want gift cards from Walmart and the like. Christmas is about giving and the birth of Christ as a gift to the world. Please let's end this now.
