Why is your MIL in your house while you're not there? Do you live together? If you don't live together, I'd change the locks on the house. DH can go fuck himself. You deserve some privacy.

This would drive me bonkers. And I'd be just as pissed at DH if I were you. Why is it ok for her to go through ANY of your cabinets, drawers, closets, etc? And who the fuck is she to get an opinion on them?

Yeah, I'd be pretty clear, once, that MIL isn't allowed in private spaces in the house (aka bedrooms), and I wouldn't allow her in the house without your and/or DH there (if you can get DH on board to say something).

Or you could just stop caring what she has to say about your closet. So it's messy. Why does that matter so much? It's like she's the closet police, "This one is messy! No clothes shall be added until I deem it clean!"

Or you can get a locking door chain and use it when you aren't there. Install it on the inside of the door, unlock the chain with the key but attach the open end. Close the door almost all the way and slide the barrel back into the lock, take the key out and it will remain locked until you put the key back in.

This is ridiculously crazy!!!! This MIL would not be welcome in my home!!! I do clean my nightstand drawer (sex toys etc) when my mom visits, but I've never caught her snooping.

Repeat as necessary (as other poster said).
Also - "DH - back me the F up on this you idiot."
And if she didn't respect it I would ban her from the house unless you are there to supervise. "MIL if you don't respect my privacy then you are not welcome in my home."
