I do buy coffee regularly but I seldom (1-2 month) frequent this store.

Go in when the morning rush is over and try talking with her. Great time of year to ask her about holiday plans, family, trips out of town. More conversation will give you a better feel for what is going on. Don't just pepper her with questions, leave some gaps so, if she is interested, she can ask you questions.
