Not really. TC is a bigger school and there's a large group of high-achieving kids headed off to top schools that you won't find at Wakefield. Wakefield could be better but APS doesn't want to upset people by moving kids there.
Though Wakefield is getting that fancy new school and the new pool facility is amazing.
How does this make a difference with academics?
It doesn't. TC also has a brand new $100 million building (finished in 2010).

This. If your kid is average on up to gifted, TC likely will work extremely well.

We live in the city of Alexandria and DD has been in private since kindergarten. She asked to transfer to TC from a private HS bc of the larger environment and more academic course selection and she absolutely loves it and is thriving. She takes almost all AP classes and her teachers are fantastic and she is being challenged. Her non AP classes are another story.. Lots of under achieving kids and we are supplementing with tutors. If you have a smart kid who will take advantage of all TC has to offer it can be a great place. It totally depends on the kid. It's not for everyone but it is working well for DD.
