Is this typical of "bad" areas? Why are some only numbers and other are named?

I went to a private school so this is all new to me.


That is just how it is done in NYC. Perhaps you should find yourself a local board, since anything we have to say about NYC is at best dated.

Baltimore City schools have numbers and names. Older folks seem to know them by their numbers though.
