I'm paying for it. Purely capitalist, I assure you. I pay for stuff that will last longer than five minutes and is going to go with at least some other stuff she already has. Within those bounds, sure, she gets choices. But I get veto rights and those include vetoing entire stores where the crappy clothes fall apart and are cool for mere seconds. And we don't pay stores for the privilege of doing their advertising for them -- no clothes that have their names plastered all over the place. My kid is not their billboard.
So is it "ignorant" to expect to get something besides cheap tat for our money?
Fortunately my kid never liked Justice and now in middle school the girls would rather wear a burlap sack than anything that looked remotely like it came from Justice.

Listen, I grew up wearing LLBean and was perfectly happy because everyone around me was preppy too. If it were up to me, DD would be wearing jeans or khaki pants and a solid turtleneck or fleece top every day in non-bright colors. I would love to get her some corduroy pants with little whales embroidered on them or a big cream colored fisherman's sweater.
Alas, DD and her friends like things in bright, loud colors, sparkles and other things that I wouldn't like BUT as long as its weather appropriate and not revealing its her body. I but boundaries on how many sparkles, rhinestones, or whatever can be on something so its no so over the top its distracting in school but for the most part its her choice and they all seem to love Justice.

I would agree to stay away from Justice for your niece. It's not going to be her style. I think boden is pretty good.

Justice clothing is cheap and ugly. There is similar styled clothing that is better made and styled nicer in other stores.
I never said I liked it or hated it. Some people like to make their own (GASP!) decisions.

I would second Zara - H&M can be too tacky - but Zara tends to have an amazing supply of cool clothes for girls that aren't too tacky (though they have those too). Some I even want for myself! I think the F Street one has the best selection in the District. Avoid Georgetown.
