Last year I got her tickets and hotel for her and her best fiend to go see their favorite band. She didn't appreciate that as much I would have thought.

This year I figure I'll just save money and do a purse or something.

Only if you are getting it as a massager, not its other sugegsted uses. It is way to powerful for me to see how it could ever work for those other uses. Yes, I have one. For my neck! For those other uses, I am partial to JimmyJane, but you could poke around the Liberator or Babeland sites. Might be best to let her pick it out, though.

I also give her flowers for no special event or reason. Earlier this year I sent flowers to her office. Her colleagues asked her what I had done wrong to warrant sending her flowers! She said that it was just done spontaneously ........ they were somewhat taken aback.

DW here. I think that sort of thing is just showy BS. Send them to the house, or bring them to me. (Which is what DH generally does). I don't need to show off to random colleagu es.

Last thing on my mind was to make a "show" of it! We've been happily married for 25+ years so the need to make a "show" of it is a low priority.

The thing about giving a gift for a special occasion is that most of the time neither of us can think of anything that the other really wants or would like. But during the course of the year something or the other comes up and then rather than wait for a special occasion we just do it right then.

A theme, correct me if I am wrong, is the time spent finding the perfect gift. A high bar. Every woman and man is different.

I do, very much appreciate well thought out gifts. It's not the dollar value, it's the surprise when you realize that someone close to you "gets" you in a way you didn't expect.

It's intimacy.

I'm a PP who mentioned what I'm getting my wife. We also do gifts throughout the year, but she usually scoffs at me spending money on her just because. At least for Christmas, her birthday, and our anniversary, she accepts these gifts. Otherwise it is always how the kids could use this, the house could use that. Never what she wants.

I love when my husband picks out things he likes for me. Meaning perfume, jewelry, lingerie, clothing... I love the idea of him seeing something and thinking he would like it on me. I am much happier to receive something like that than something utilitarian like... Books. Your wife would love if you gave her a pair of earrings (or whatever) and specifically told her "I got these because I thought they would look beautiful on you."
