Quick question. I generally use olive oil when I cook and have been keeping my used olive oil in a coffee can in my freezer. However, all the talk of bacon fat made me wonder if I really need to do it for olive oil as well given that it doesn't congeal at room temp. What do you all think?

We pour ours into an empty yogurt cup and toss in the freezer. Then the next time we have grease we add to the yogurt cup. Once it is filled we throw it out and start again.

For about 2 feet, and then it starts congealing. Honestly don't do this unless you want a backed up sink and an unnecessary visit from the plumber.

Sweet Jesus. OP here. Thank you.

NP. Yes, thank you! Now I'll be saving all my bacon grease.

Question: How long will it be good in the refrigerator? I assume at some point it spoils. . .

Tin foil.

Seriously. Line a bowl with it. Pour the grease in. Grease hardens. Ball it up and throw it away.

+1. Pour it in a coffee can or glass jar with lid, toss it out with the trash. If it's a small amount in a pan I'll wipe it away with a paper towel. As long as it doesn't go down the sink drain, it's all good.

Do NOT pour hot grease into a glass jar--it could smash into pieces if the temperature of the glass is cold enough.

Pour it into a used tin can, stick it in the fridge or freezer to harden up. Dump it in the trash the morning of or day b/f. Make sure your trash can has a tight fitting lid, so you don't attract critters.

I have to agree with this, as this has already happened to me and it was a real mess. Now I keep a can in the fridge with grease in it, sometimes I just have an empty open can in the fridge so I will never again be in the position where I have grease and don't have a can to pour it into.

Wait, people fry their bacon on the stove? Am I the only one that puts it in the oven?

Not that person, but bacon grease is wonderful for greasing a pan for cooking.

My mom used to save it, as well as use it to season her cast iron skillets.
