How about giving each person 10 $1 bills and tell them to use it to help someone else?

Every year I give my colleagues a card with a Powerball ticket inside.

I've done mini bottles of champagne as a New Year's gift before. It's also nice paired with good chocolate. Godiva truffles are a nice gift as well. I think edible items are always a good choice.

Suggest a name draw, so everyone only buys once $50 gift instead of 5 $10 gifts?

OP here: not ungrateful, just direct. My apologies, but I typically have a baby on my hip when I'm typing on DCUM. Thanks for the suggestions...I truly appreciate them. Just discovering that after working with folks for 10+ years it becomes difficult to find a token gift that has been done already.

6 paperwhite bulbs ($6) a small glass container from Target to grow them in ($3) a handful of white pea gravel (buy a bag at $3). Instructions on how to grow them (internet -- free). there is nothing more fun than watching bulbs sprout and flower.

There. I fixed that for you, you ungrateful person. I wasn't even one of the PPs. Just tired of this attitude.

+1 I think OP is Eeyore.

I give gifts that are practical and tailored to the people but still cheap. For example, my colleague eats protein bars every day, is a coffee-fiend and is one of those people who has chapstick everywhere. So, i got him a gift card to Starbucks, some protein bars and Chapstick!! My secretary loves to bake, so I will do a gift bag of baking soda, baking powder, some expensive vanilla, and christmas decorating stuff (sprinkles, cupcake liners, edible glitter. Will buy everything at Giant!

Some kind of homemade candies or cookies (assuming they're good, i.e. no crappy shortbread).

Attractive holiday ornament

Francesca's Collection has great jewelry for cheap and also little knick-knacky things. I got my staff these emergency kits that had nail files, clear polish, etc.
