We also live in CCDC and I would go to Calvert Woodley. They re having their fall sale and the prices are better than Total Wine (not sure about Costco). They will also deliver to your house in DC, so you do not have to haul it around. Tell them how much you want to spend per bottle and they find great matches.

I've gotten good deals at the Safeway in Palisades too. They've got some nice wines. But not sure it's the place to go for cases. I don't think they do a case discount, not even sure they have case boxes to carry the wine out!

Total Wine for sure. Check for a coupon, they have them often and you can just show it on your phone. Much better selection than Costco, especially if you are looking for decently priced sparkling.

Good advice on the whole. Know that most places will give you a 20% discount on a case of the same wine and less of a discount on a mixed case. I find Paul's in DC has a good selection at reasonable prices (not the cheapest but fair), they are very nice and they are also always willing to wheel and deal, which I also like. At most DC stores -- DC has very favorable rules for importing -- if you make the place your regular shop, they will give you even better deals, things that are just coming in etc. Peter Weygendt in Cleveland Park is also excellent on service and selection though it skews heavily French, and they too will strike a bargain, and are apt to open things for you to taste. As noted, you should probably drive to West Virginia before buying in MoCo, though you can occasionally do ok at Cork 47 in Bethesda.

The rodmans in DC is consistently cheaper than the one in Rockville and it carries different wines. I regularly drive to the DC location to stock up. By the way, they offer a 10% discount on cases (can be mixed) which sweetens the deal.

Total Wine in Laurel. They also sell liquor unlike the ones in VA, though I think that means that their wine selection is not as good, because the floor space looks to be about the same.

Ace Beverage in Foxhall and Macarthur Wines in Palisades are also quality shops where you'll find knowledgeable staff and quality stuff. They all offer case discounts (I think). If you want any kind of advice, go to one of those.
