You sound like a peach of a MIL yourself. So, you have Thanksgiving, invite all family, including your son, but want to exclude DIL from the turkey dinner? Who the heck does that for Thanksgiving? You suck it up for one day of the year, MIL, ONE DAY. I wish I could escape, but I can't - for many reasons to list here.

Boring I can take. But these are boring and obnoxious people. Any civilized conversation is deemed too "academic" for them. They will make racist comments all the time, even when watching sports. I have to deprogramme my kids each time we get back home after meeting them. And these are well to do folks (with very narrow minds), with college degrees and all.

We can choose our friends and not our relatives.

+1, although it's my MIL. SIL and I get along just fine.
My MIL, on the other hand, is like a broken record. But I've learned to let it slide. No, I'm not 'pissy or moody', I put on my happiest face, but I'm counting hours until we're outta there.

I wouldn't go. Life is too short. I remember one Thanksgiving my BIL and his wife went to Jamaica for vacation instead.
