There is overlap between Prep and Landon and a little with Zaga and Landon. I could name a number of boys who are at Prep or Landon currently that applied to both schools. All the comments come from folks that are old and are not on the scene. Fyi, there is not a Hot Shoppes in Bethesda anymore and the Cold War is over. Also if your kid is talking about dating "molly" that is a bad thing.

I could see how Landon could be losing some kids who live in the Vienna, Great Falls, Bethesda, Rockville, and Potomac zip codes to Gonzaga.
+1 Landon and Paul VI are totally different appicant pools. We have been at Landon a long time and I have never heard of anyone who considered Paul VI along with Landon.
There may be a few considerig Gonzaga and Landon but also not common. Usually it is the Mater Dei kids deciding bet. Gonzaga and Prep. Very few MD kids are looking at Landon.
Typically kids looking at Landon are considering Bullis, Sidwell, and St. Alban's, maybe Potomac School if they are in VA.

Gonzaga has over 900 applicants, there is certainly overlap between Gonzaga and Landon. There is little to no overlap between Landon and Bullis. Totally different schools in student body, philosophy etc. Bullis is pushing STEM and Landon is traditional. Bullis has no sports requirement and Landon has a 3 season sports requirement. Then of course boys vs coed. Prep and Landon probably have the most overlap in the applicant pool. Even if you hate Landon you have to applaud the initiative.

Anonymous wrote:This is a response to the decline in athletic applicants to Landon. More and more kids are going to schools that are cheaper and have athletic programs that meet their standards. Schools like Gonzaga and PVI are getting kids that would have gone to a school like Landon in the past. Same thing is happening at Prep. More and more Mater Dei kids are going to Gonzaga.
This "scholarship" is just another way to bring in more athletes to the school.
