The few Catholic families that send their sons to Landon are almost all new to DC. They don't yet get how much the GP and GZA crowd detest Landon.

While I would agree with you in the 80's and 90's and maybe even very early 2000's, there might be very little cross applicants between Prep, Gonzaga and Landon, I do think times have changed.

I suspect a FEW of the lacrosse players and even some football and basketball players at these schools have applied to both schools.

Its simple, if you want the all boys route with no religious component and are looking for strong mix between academics and athletics, Landon is most likely a good fit for you. If you want the all boys route, a Catholic School education with a strong mix of academics and sports, Prep is most likely a top choice for you. (sorry Gonzaga but your academics aren't on par with the IAC schools but your athletics are certainly better)

I would imagine for some families being recruited by these schools for athletic purposes or if they are truly undecided on which route their son truly wants a Catholic component vs non Catholic component, prospective families will certainly test the market, explore both schools and apply to 2 both schools.

I do think Landon competes with more kids applying to Potomac and St. Albans maybe Maret than they with Prep.

+1 Landon and Paul VI are totally different appicant pools. We have been at Landon a long time and I have never heard of anyone who considered Paul VI along with Landon.

There may be a few considerig Gonzaga and Landon but also not common. Usually it is the Mater Dei kids deciding bet. Gonzaga and Prep. Very few MD kids are looking at Landon.

Typically kids looking at Landon are considering Bullis, Sidwell, and St. Alban's, maybe Potomac School if they are in VA.

Gonzaga and Prep share the same applicant pool. Although not everyone applies to both schools. The Landon applicant pool is almost completely different except for a rare exception.

There is little overlap between Landon and Gonzaga or Prep. There never has been.

Gonzaga and Prep are the top choices of the Montgomery and NW DC Catholics who wouldn't dream of sending anyone to Landon.

You have to wonder why anyone would post this obvious fiction.

Is athletic ability and intelligence mutually exclusive? I think a lot of people on this forum don't understand that these kids in the IAC are not big time athletes. How many kids has Landon sent to the NFL, NBA, MLS, NHL? How many alums get money to play a sport after college? How many play D-1 sports outside of lacrosse (which nobody care about excpet people in this area)? Growing up in this area I NEVER thought of any IAC schools as having athletes.

I attended the open house this past Sunday and it seemed pretty packed to me.

This is a response to the decline in athletic applicants to Landon. More and more kids are going to schools that are cheaper and have athletic programs that meet their standards. Schools like Gonzaga and PVI are getting kids that would have gone to a school like Landon in the past. Same thing is happening at Prep. More and more Mater Dei kids are going to Gonzaga.

The only sport Landon really loses to Bullis in is football and basketball. Anyone who follows IAC sports is well aware the Bullis administration has made it a top priority to bring in big time recruits for hoops and football. Bullis lacrosse will always remain on the back burner to its football and basketball programs.

Lets be serious, the only sports Bullis is actually winning are sports where they are blatantly bringing in kids who can run a 4.5 40 time and can dunk a basketball.

The only kids Landon has lost to Bullis the past few years have been two very good football players who were asked to leave Landon for academic and discipline reasons after their freshman year and Bullis gave the kids a 2nd opportunity.

They lost a lot of 8th graders last year.
