Wow this is an interesting article. I do not understand how one school can spend more than another in the same county. Why not each school gets a certain amount per child per year? Also interesting since we pay taxes and living in pg especially in certain areas taxes are high and our kids still get less. Disturbing and I see why parents run for private. However, it is not fair for those who deserve a great education in public such as woodmore or other surrounding schools. I wonder what TAG schools Spend?

I am glad I took the tour and based on what I saw I would send my daughter and be a part of the parent organization to push for the best for students. Way to go woodmore elementary. Test scores overall look good based on other schools in the county as well.

Just an aside (I'm glad you toured and are happy with the school) - PG spends more per child than any surrounding county. Disturbing but true.

Source of this statistic? I think you have it exactly opposite.

Prince George's County has more schools than any of the other districts in the D.C. metro area, and spends the fewest dollars per pupil ($10,408). The discrepancy in dollars is even more striking when compared to its nearest neighbor, DCPS (which spends $15,743 per pupil), considering that the two districts have similar demographics. One major difference is scale. The 191 district schools in Prince George's County have an average enrollment of 628 students, while the 120 DCPS schools enroll an average of 365 pupils. Another key difference is revenue. Prince George's County simply receives less money per pupil, so it creates economies by having larger schools and one of the region's highest student-teacher ratios.

I am the poster with the 4th grader... this is her first year in PG county schools. I will tell you now that we are in quarter two I really feel like the teachers are invested in the kids doing well. My daughters math scores and confidence has soared. Overall I am pleased academically however I still believe the classes are too large. Next year Woodmore will only go to 5th grade FYI.

or maybe the parents may want to save their comments. I know some neighbors who have pulled their child from the school. I have heard okay things about the school.

Maybe alot of parents on the board don't have kids here. I do. The principal is great. She very vested and when you talk to her, you'll see why.

However, this number varies. One Kindergarten class started with 16 this year but last year it was 30 per class.

Wow I thought that the numbers would have went lower. We did not enroll our child at Woodmore in kindergarten and first grade due to the class sizes. I know my child has a hard time focusing in large classes. However, I was thinking that by the second grade the numbers would be lower and I could try the school her second grade year. Hearing that the numbers are still large has me wondering if this move will be beneficial for my daughter. For the parent who mentioned class sizes has it affected your child academically at all?

I'm 13:48 poster. My daughter is in 1st grade. I still like the school and feel the same as my original comment. The school may not look that great and parents park on the grass but it is a top school in the county. When you tour, the principal will give you the stats.

Any new update for Woodmore elementary School. We just bought a house and will be moving into the area next month? We are debating about sending our child to Woodmore or look at private schools in the area? Any suggestions from parents who attend the school. I understand pg county schools need a lot of growth but could this school be that bad. I will say when i drove by it looked dreary and no parking lot. But i do not want to judge a book by its cover. I am awaiting the principal response for a tour. It has not happened yet.
