that has not been my experience. When I purchased in 2012, I shopped around, and the credit unions had higher interest rates. They have higher rates partly because they do hold the loans and they are more risk-averse than other banks.

My husband had purchased a house with a credit union before we married. They were slow to process the loan. You really have to keep on top of them.
