HHI 200k

I run a blog related to my hobby. I run it for the sole reason of being able to get items related to said hobby for free/cheaper for writing reviews / name dropping it. I make no money, but I get items for my hobby cheaper.

I pack the DW lunch every day, and I dont eat lunch or have something small or cheap like a yogurt. Every day.

Costco brand anything. No coke for us, Kirkland Diet Cola it is.

That's about it I guess. Pretty tame.

High HHI, the only thing DH is ok with spending on is things like new houses and investments the rest is a battle to justify depreciation.

All of DH's clothing comes from thrift stores. This is his choice. He doesn't need to dress up for work and has an opposition to purchasing new clothes (he claims it is bad for the environment, but he is probably just cheap).

I try not to buy coffee out more than twice a week.

We spend a lot of money traveling to see family living in other states. We do it fairly regularly. For holidays, we always have to travel at expensive times due to work obligations.

Shop through online portal to earn cash back.
Coupons for everything.
I will scour for promo codes online before buying a thing- and I have a few websites that will show me what codes are coming up in the future in case that's a better deal.
DH and I do not buy Christmas gifts for each other- we usually do something big during the year. This year it was a house upgrade we had wanted for a long time.
Until recently we drove cars with 150k-200k miles on them.
No outsourcing of household chores. (We both WOH full time.)

I shop at thrift stores for my kids' clothing and some of mine.
I buy Groupons for meals out with our family.
I never buy baked goods; I always make them.

We often do takeout on Friday nights.
I am not at all careful about grocery shopping - if we need something or for that matter, want something, I just buy it. I do very little comparison-shopping.

About $300K
1 car household. Shop at Old Navy, Target, Nordstrom Rack, Payless for clothes/shoes. Wear/use coats, shoes, purses for many years.
Splurges: private school, summer home, groceries from Whole Foods.

Make super cheap "poverty meal" dinners when DH is away

Never buy new shoes for anyone but DH. I've found far too many scarcely worn $50 kid's shoes for $5 at thrift stores to pay full price

Never buy new clothes or shoes for myself for same reason. This isn't sexism- I look for men's stuff, but it's usually very worn out. I get the feeling guys don't donate stuff until they die and their wife cleans out their closet.

I do spend an absolute fortune on bras and vitamin supplements, obsess over maxing out retirement contributions, and send two kids to Catholic school.

I will calculate out each item per piece unit and purchase the cheapest (advil, toilet paper, laundry detergent etc...) I even buy toilet paper online if it is on sale. HHI is high.

Baby stays with grandma during the day because its free, even though her child rearing beliefs are archaic (ie. tummy sleeping is a no, I don't care if its "comfy", and yes SIDS is real)
Buy everything with a coupon
Buy clothes twice a year, and shop the clearance rack
Cook almost every meal at home, don't eat much meat
Rent in a not so safe neighborhood to save for a house
One low cost vacation a year, the rest of our time we either don't use or we go on dates during the day

Hair Cuttery isn't an example of saving money. Haircuts are expensive. Most of the world gets haircuts at home. I'm well off and I cut my hair at home. Mostly for convenience but saving $15 and a drive to the mall helps too.
