As a current parent I can tell you that I did not know about this win. So I am glad a non-parent thought enough of the show to post this on DCUM. I will say this, one of the things I love about Holton is the wonderful school pride the girls and parents have. I really do not understand all of the "hate" some people have for Holton. What's wrong with celebrating the girl's accomplishments? I am sure if the girls progress in the competition the school will celebrate,but there is nothing wrong with acknowledging this accomplishment now. School Spirit is large part of the Holton culture.

You are insane! A non Holton mom put this up and it resonated with a few folks, that's it. Sorry your kid goes to a dumbshit school and you can't possibly relate to this story. Have you ever read a single thread on this site? This one jumps out as bragging and annoying? Wow.

Be proud all you want but don't be surprised if people find the Internet bragging off-putting.

Put me in the "it's a little silly to post about winning a round on 'It's Academic' with a lot of points" camp. At a minimum, the title suggested it would be something more substantive than "It's Academic." (Does Holton still fly those banners advertising that they won "It's Academic" on their lamp-posts? I remember those from around 2006 or so.)

I'm the OP. I was flipping channels while getting dressed for an appointment when I came across the show. I was equally impressed being AA to see an AA representing H and this area well. Like I said we don't have DD going there, in fact she shadowed, didn't like it, still applied but was rejected. She's quite happy where she's at as its a good fit. Me as the parent wished it had worked at H, but she's happy and all that matters. She's still friends with a few girls there. We r lucky to have so many excellent schools to choose from ...

I agree. Besides these are kids we are talking about. They have worked hard and they did amazingly well on this public forum. They should be able to be proud, their parents, classmates, teachers, and school should also be able to be proud. Wish we could make all of the angry people go away.

It is funny how Holton brings out so many haters. I think a lot of people just hate the idea of single-sex schools and really hate the idea of girls doing better than boys.

I don't have a daughter at Holton (or a son at Landon) but I think the Holton posts are no different from all the other school posts. It is a great school and there is legitimate reason for the backlash. Too many of you folks are just being assholes.

Still seems a bit silly to post this -- if nothing else, because DCUM is so snarky and it seems such an insular post. Talk about it in the carpool line or on the sidelines of the soccer field. Maybe if they win "It's Academic" outright it's worth a post (and maybe they will, or maybe they just came up against a couple of sacrificial lamb teams).


They have won the whole thing in the past.
