Subject: Re:What are you doing to cut costs during the shutdown?
I grow about 60-70 percent of our fruits and vegetables. We've been eating a lot out of our garden. I also have (had) a freezer full of venison and wild turkey. We've gone through more of that than I typical would cook. I have 4 months worth of food stored, but we haven't touched any of it. I'm trying to avoid spending money at the grocery store simply because no one seems to know how long this will last.
I've suspended every loan payment I could...student loans, line of credit, and credit card. We have the funds, but I'm trying to hold onto every penny till we know how long this will go on.
This whole thing has made me really thankful that I can feed our family without being dependent on a government paycheck.

Subject: What are you doing to cut costs during the shutdown?
Eat from pantry and freezer. Use Internet to find recipes for random food I have in there.
Rolled coins and took to bank to get bills vs having to pay coin star 10% to count for me.
Washed and vacuumed own car vs going to mr. Car wash
No date nights out or babysitters. No movies. Must come from library or netflix
Renegotiate rates with Comcast
Delaying major and minor purchases, such as a new (to us) used car we were going to buy. Not buying any new clothes for anyone. Not buying any Christmas resents

No eating out. Cleared out the clutter in the house and had a yard sale. Cutting my own grass. Baking a lot more to cut back on cost of packaged snacks for dc's lunches (healthier too). Making a lot of freezer meals for future uses. More time to go to thrift stores and look for dc's winter clothing. Got a great LL Bean coat for ds for 7 bucks.

Cashed in small paper saving bonds
Gathered up all change in house & turned it into Giant card via Coinstar
Sold unused / unwanted gift cards on Cardpool
For other gift cards on hand, went out to eat at that restaurant even if not my favorite

Cancelled biweekly cleaning service visit
Shopped loss leaders at grocery stores
Made $20 go a long way at CVS with extrabucks, 30% coupon, and manufacturer's coupon
