Well I'm a DC parent. I would get tired of people slamming DC parents for their own amusement, but then I don't bother to read NoVA or MD forums so I really don't know if they actually do. The burbs are beneath my notice.

I'm on this website because I was first thinking of TTC, then TTC, and now (early stages) pregnant.

I click on the "recent topics," and guess what? It shows titles of threads from all forums. And yes, I live in PG, so when I see PG county mentioned negatively, I'm going to read the thread, because MOST of the time, the people who bash PG don't actually live there and have very little beyond scant anecdotal information from a friend of a friend who knew someone. And I'm tired of the misinformation, the bashing and the ridiculous efforts people who don't live in PG County seem to like to make to continue to make PG seem like some wasteland of degenerates. It is not. If you don't like it and don't live there, fine, but why do you have to keep talking about it, bashing it?

How are they getting away with it? Let's list all of the ways we KNOW people cheat the system and if DCPS system is effective at addressing it..

I know of one in PG, one in MoCo close-in, and a few in DC who fudge in-boundary stats.

There are lots of Maryland license plates dropping off kids (and slowing down/blocking traffic) on P St NW between NJ Ave and 5th St NW in front of KIPP. When we drive down P Street in the morning past KIPP, I note the number of MD license plates outnumbering the DC plates.
I'm only guessing they are mostly from PG. I guess they come from the same place that clogs up my neighborhood streets with illegal parking on Sunday mornings too.

There are many VA tags at drop off and pick up at my DC Charter school.

I know of a MoCo parent sending children to a desirable DC charter.
Children are getting straight "A"s in the school.
Pretty sure it would not have happened in their in boundary neighborhood MoCo high school.

just curious if your kids' school is highly desirable. So many DC parents are on ridiculously long wait lists so I'm curious how there is ever an open spot left for out-of-state families to pay.

Do you know the process? At what point does DC government open up slots to out-of-town folks when there are 500+ people on waitlists for the desirable schools?

NP from MOCO here with a few honest questions: why are parents sneaking their kids into DC schools? Is it just up through kindergarten or longer? How do they not get caught?

they think it's a right because for so long it was just a given. no one wanted to go to DC schools anyway, except those west of the park, so it was totally cool to drop your kid off at Brent on the way into DC on your commute into work. And that kid, who is now in 8th grade would have 3 siblings, the youngest one who would be keeping your kid out of preS because of sibling preference.

I have heard of PG, Montgomery and Alexandria City. I think it's mainly for parental convenience rather than thinking the DC schools are better.

It totally bothers me that the cheaters keep out legitimately IB kids in preS and preK and OBB siblings in all grades trying to lottery in.

A cheater family cause me to have my twins at different schools for two months. It is not the fault of the kids - it is the parents being selfish.
