Rock Creek Valley:
No spelling tests (supposed to just learn by reading)
Don't know about cursive (2nd grader)
Art, PE, and Music once a week for each
NO to Science and Social Studies daily. They alternate between the two
Yes to homework for K and 1st. We did K at another school and they had A LOT of homework in K. Far too much.
Not sure on acceleration in math. There are math groups, but we haven't been told that there is any difference.

1. Gives spelling tests (of words that you think are sufficiently difficult for the grade level)
Yes
2. Teaches cursive
Of course!
3. Has art, PE, or music weekly (and what frequency - once, twice, daily)
Art once a week. Music once a week plus my son is in band. They meet after school twice a week. PE three days a week.
4. Has social studies and science daily (if not, how frequently)
Of course every day.
5. Gives homework to K and 1st
Yes, but very little. He has had a lot more the last two years (4th and 5th grade)
6. Allows acceleration in math (I'm not sure how to ask this one. My oldest is in preschool. But I know math has been a hot button topic under 2.0)
Yes.
When we lived in MOCO, my answers would have been very different. One of the reasons we moved out of the DC area.

1. Gives spelling tests (of words that you think are sufficiently difficult for the grade level): yes-the words are differentiated and based on what is being studied in class. When they had brine shrimp as a class pet, one of the spelling words for my kid's group was nauplii. Seriously. I had to look it up when he brought it home.
2. Teaches cursive: No
3. Has art, PE, or music weekly (and what frequency - once, twice, daily): yes-weekly. They also have a library/technology class.
4. Has social studies and science daily (if not, how frequently): no-I believe it was 3x/week.
5. Gives homework to K and 1st: Yes. 2nd had the most meaningful HW assignments, but he had a great teacher.
6. Allows acceleration in math (I'm not sure how to ask this one. My oldest is in preschool. But I know math has been a hot button topic under 2.0): There was differentiation/leveling at the classroom level. For reading (I know you didn't ask) differentiation took place at the grade level, meaning your child could have a completely different teacher and classmates outside of his regular class for reading.
This was last year at Bel Pre ES. (K-2 school)

It is elementary school ...........
agree 100%
But notice that it's really NOT about the kids; it's about the parents.
