Sounds like you had a lot of motivation in life...

+1 try "riding it out" in the private sector and you will be riding it out at the unemployment line.

OP here. I will eventually obtain any remunerations that are due me. Whether it makes sense to you, respectfully, means absolutely nothing to me.

I don't blame you for the decision to leave but you do sound awfully full of yourself, not to mention impractical (the "remunerations" ... cancelling direct deposit bits).

Too many years in the government will do that to you. I think we are all better off with this change, including the OP and OPM.

This shutdown has just motivated me to get out of the federal government and dc faster. I've been spending a lot of my free time looking for another job back home.

Timing is everything, and you might not have made the decision as soon if there hadn't' been a shutdown. Your new employer sounds shrewd knowing exactly when to make the offer. If I was an employer looking for top personnel, and I heard no one knew when the government was reopening, I'd dangle fruit too!

Congrats, OP. Don't let a few jerks be a downer.

OP here. Thank you, and I will admit that once I made the decision this morning, it was a relief. It was probably imminent even if the government hadn't closed but the timing of the offer was perfect. It's a great opportunity and a chance to do things I couldn't do in government.

You made the right decision! I left the government after six years activity duty military and two years as a GS. I still have coworkers and friends tell me that I made a mistake, even after all of the freezes and shut downs. You'll be just fine! Best to you.

Ok, I might sound like an asshole to you (not that I care). But what is "pretentious" about my comment? Do you even know the meaning of the word?

I find that half the posters who use the word "pretentious" on DCUM have no idea what it means.

Hmmm, you insult OP and then you want explanations. How did you put it? Buh-bye.

So you are just making it more difficult, pointlessly, by eliminating direct deposit so the government has to track you down and cut you a paper check. You don't care to explain this because you can't explain it. It's people who can't think rationally about actions and consequences who got us into this mess. Your departure is a gain for taxpayers and a loss to no one but you, given your brilliant final stand on your final 'remunerations" as you so pompously put it.
I don't think there will any tears or any regrets. You seem to be the only one upset, and you don't even have a dog in this fight! Good grief! Get a life!

Some people don't look at it as a free vacation and would rather work.
