Baby-sit as well. People are desperate for someone to pick up their kids after school, take them to activities, bring them home, give them dinner, get them ready for bed. That's a real niche for which rich employed people will pay good $. Good luck!

How many months of living expenses do you have in the bank? The answer to that will inform whether it's best to take any job, or hold out for a good one--for you and your DH.

That's a great start, OP. I think you sound very employable. Polish off that resume with all the great charity work you've done and the new freelance work. Put yourself out there!

OP, are you employable?

Assess your financial situation asap to see how long you can go without an income.

He should apply for unemployment.

If neccessary the family should apply for food stamps to help alleviate the food burden.

You should step up and get a job. Anywhere part time temp doesn't matter. Show him that youre in his together and that youve got his back. The last thing you need is for him to be resentful of you right now bc you are not contributing financially.

Support him emotionally and dont let him see how scared/stressed you are. Be there for him and your family.

If you can make it through this you will be a stronger family.

1st - I would look at my finances to do an assessment of exactly how many months of savings I had.

Look at any automatic withdrawals that you have going to college savings or other non-essential payments. Stop these immediately. This is temporary for cash flow purposes.

Cancel cable now - but keep internet, you need it. See what other memberships/subscriptions you can cancel suspend (magazines, enrollments, healthclub)

There are so many other families right now in the same position, is there anything you can do to get hired part-time? I am sure since you have 3 elementary aged children you have considered this- but maybe time to think a little harder. Retail will be hiring for the holidays. Even if hours are not optimal - it may be enough to get you over the hump.
