Came to this site, possibly for the same reasons as many of you... find out what else is happening with days off. My concern is not with the furlough but snow days and the extra days the military folks take of. If the building is closed I cannot come to work, as in a snow day. My company says make up the hours or take PTO. I think it should be LWOP. Don't feel it's right for me to use my PTO (or work late other days) for those hours missed. Me? Take the hit and move on. The company should do the same.

I worked at one of those 'best places to work' companies and our management said we were their 'most valued asset' blah blah blah. A few months ago our asses hit the street as soon as the sequestration hit our contract.
My company didn't even bother with the exit interviews. We're valuable as long as we have billable hours to feed those on overhead. When the hours run out, we're just ballast.

Nope. We are a small business and can't pay without funding. Due to the way our contract is structured, we can't have much cushion or they lower our rates.

I dont know how the congress would allow the back-pay for federal workers -- the whole fight is about budgeting; now the federal workers are getting paid without even working. all my federal friends are going out shopping and buying houses. but our contractors are all screwed.

I think it's awful that the contractors aren't getting paid. You should all protest to your management. I administer government contractors and I know how much they charge us back for a contractor. Your companies should have plenty of cushion to put you on admin leave.
