Another point where you are willfully ignorant. Feds can apply and receive unemployment. In the event that Congress approves backpay, then the individual will be required to pay back any unemployment compensation received. So, they only keep the unemployment insurance if Congress does not approve backpay.

There are some real idiots on this site. The Federal Government pays unemployment tax, so we do have the right to file and no it is NOT illegal to do so. If we are reimbursed the money will have to be repaid. My question is, I don't want a new job - but DC unemployment requires me to apply for 2 new jobs a week.

Not true for furloughed Feds who work in DC. From the DC Department of Employment Services' web site:

"Furloughed federal employees will not be required to obtain job search contacts if they file for unemployment benefits in the District of Columbia."

In Maryland the requirement to look for work is also waived for feds.

You can file but you need to record at least two attempts to look for a job, send out resumes and such. In DC you write it down every week you claim.. You get money in exchange for your attempts at getting a new job.
