Let the kids dress up one night, sure, but why all the frightening decorations and 'Happy Halloween' signs? What's happy about it?
Why do you feel Halloween is any stupider or nonsensical than Christmas? Both are bastardizations of the original Pagan holiday. Halloween coming from Samhain and Christmas coming from the Winter Solstice. So what makes Halloween more objectionable?

Personally I wish we would return to the tradition of dressing and decorating scary and frightening, instead of like, dressing up as Cinderella and going trick or treating at the mall. That's just so sad.

Whereas Halloween is really only about 4 hours of "Celebration" unless you count parties leading up to the actual day of halloween.
