This has happened to me often enough that I can't go on that site anymore. The commenters are what make that blog successful and I feel that PoP is some kind of censorship-loving control freak. I understand he can run the blog however he wants, but it just seems wrong.

Pot? Kettle???

Please explain.

Years ago, a blog posting on popville featured a debate about offering chicken wings "to go" from DC convenience stores and takeout places. I posted a silly comment in support of wings-to-go in which I said something in half-jest like "no wings-to-go is simply Un-American!" My comment had no curse words, didn't attack anyone, and was (at least from my perspective) lighthearted in tone. PoP promptly deleted it.

Maybe he just gets in a mood sometimes. Idk. He probably could've used some takeout wings.

Deleted and banned at Popville also.

Some kid didn't think a neighbor should be allowed to grow some flower or bush or something (can't quite remember the details) because his dog was allergic to it, and the whiny entitled attitude was too much to not give at least a little innocuous ribbing in response.

I find it quite useful for finding out about events, real estate stuff, openings, occasionally stuff about transportation.

The occasional DCUM hate for it and for its proprietor I do not have much use for.

I got deleted and banned for...suggesting moderator close a thread on which posters were being really vitriolic and racist—not a surprise, really.

Huh--I never noticed comment censorship at PoP. I enjoy the blog for information on restaurant openings, real estate trends and the weekly photo caption contest.

I've made more than a few posts that have been deleted at popville. Usually speaking to the rise in real estate/rental prices and gentrification, and I've consistently been deleted. I think I might even be banned after questioning why the site doesn't abide by its own posting policy, as my posts seem to disappear almost magically within a couple minutes of posting.
I'm convinced it's because I often present an opinion that runs counter to the majority of the posts/posters who inhabit Popville, and, I suppose, Dan, himself. It certainly isn't about controversial topics, as I just followed a post where a woman got ganged up on for the dog poop left in her yard.
I say again, I got banned for having my opinions, no insults or threats, and Dan allowed a ton of posters to belittle and mock someone do to the condition of her house's yard.
Their skin is so thin over there, and the viewpoints they allow to be presented are so narrow, I can't believe they haven't yet been called out on it in the virtual press.

I have had the same experience. On a real estate post featuring an overpriced home in an up-and-coming neighborhood, I commented that it was houses and prices like the one posted that prompted me to move out of the DC area and the comment was deleted. And I'd been a steady reader for years, but that really irritated me.
